As we head towards winter, the clocks have changed back 1 hour, the temperature has changed and the overall landscape of New England changes. The trees are bare and fewer people are out walking. Making changes in one’s life can be painful or pleasurable depending on one’s viewpoint. Change can be exciting when viewed as a potential growth opportunity. This can then translate into increased self esteem. As a graduate student, a professor told our internship class that once we became therapists there would be times in our professional lives that would require us to remake ourselves in our roles/careers as we went along. That has always stuck with me. All of us will be dealt situations in which we will be dealt with adversity. This can be an opportunity to change and grow as a result. Change, seen as a learning opportunity can be experienced as pleasurable and not painful. Is there a situation in your life now that requires change? Identify it by writing it down. Write down 3 steps you can take towards changing the situation. Get a coach or therapist if needed. Ask family and friends for support. Make a decision to change today. You will be happy you did!
